  1. 1. In your opinion what are the most important relationships you have that could increase your human capital in the future?
I dont have any important relationships. I literally try my hardest to never talk to people or create strong friendships. If i'm going to become successful in the future, im going to do it alone.
    2. In your opinion what are the most important signaling assets a person your age could have? What signaling assets do you want to have in the future?
The most important signals a person my age could have would be probably a high school diploma, because that is an achievement of doing the schooling most places require you to have. Other signals could be academic or athletic letters, which shows you have an expertise in specific fields. Another example of a good signal is if you were in the National Honors Society, that is a pretty major achievement that stands out on most applications. I think in the future what colleges someone might graduate from. Like in my case, i'm choosing to graduate from St. Thomas, because i know a diploma from there is a respectable achievement in the business world.
    3. What skills do you currently have and how do you plan to foster (build) those skills in the future?
Skills i currently have is the fact i went to SES, which is different from most high schools, in which i learned even more than most people did in highschool. Other skills i have gained is from being in the NHS which helped me learn a lot and stand out from others on applications. I also interned at a bakery for a short time, so if i ever decided to go into baking, i could probably easily get a job. In the future i plan on learning ASL which is a very unique but desired skill to have.
    4. What short or long term decisions are you currently facing in your life and what are the cost involved?
Long term decisions i have is i'm planning out going to school to get either a master's degree or a professional’s degree, which will take many years and be super expensive. however afterwards i will have made many connections with people through the college as well as stand out on applications, and be more desired in the work place. Having those degrees has a higher chance of job security, and a higher paying job, so i think in the end it will play off.

    1. I like how you are so independent & have an idea on what you want to do with your future. You kinda opened up my eyes because I agree with you with creating strong friendships cause not all of them will stick around & know one should be in the way of your own success.

    2. I think it's interesting that you don't want to have any long lasting friendships or meaningful relationships. It's good to know that you are going to succeed on your own, but sometimes you are going to have to play the game.

    3. Wow it seems like you have a lot of cool and unique skills! I like your determination to do everything on your own but you might want to consider making at least one close friend, if not to help you with your career then just to have someone to confide in and have fun with. But it's up to you!

  2. 1. In your opinion what are the most important relationships you have that could increase your human capital in the future?
The most important relationships are with people who could further your career or with those who could help you network and have connections.
    2. In your opinion what are the most important signaling assets a person your age could have? What signaling assets do you want to have in the future?
At my age, a basic signalling asset is a high school diploma. People like to look at all of the volunteer work one has done as well as one’s work experience. So, building that up at my age would be much beneficial to a future employer. As well as any leadership roles someone my age has played, for example, the captain of a sports team or the manager of a store.
    3. What skills do you currently have and how do you plan to foster (build) those skills in the future?
I am very good at communicating with people, I can speak American Sign Language, I am a quick learner and my memory is near photographic. I am charismatic and I have a prodigious vocabulary. I am planning on going to the University of Minnesota Duluth to help foster my talents, then after that I would like to go to Harvard Medical or Boston Medical school to further my medical career. I will network with the Boston Children’s Hospital which is the number one Children’s in the world for pediatric oncology.
    4. What short or long term decisions are you currently facing in your life and what are the cost involved?
Which college am I going to? How am I going to afford it and maintain high enough grades to get a free ride into medical school? Should I go the long route or the short route to get to where I want to go? The expensive or the cheaper route? Do I really want to work twelve hour shifts and sometimes longer? Quite literally, the cost of a four year university and medical school is pretty all-consuming. But even so, the cost of my long term overall happiness and well being is also at stake. I am eighteen years old and I am planning my life on a word document, the cost of all of these things are grand and things are bound to go differently than expected. In truth, we never know the real costs of these things until they happen.

    2. You definitely seem to have your future planned out well and going to Duluth is a good step ahead towards your overall goal. In my opinion however, I think that going the long way and the cheapest way is going to have a bigger payout in the end, but that's just my opinion.

    1. Its really cool that you speak ASL. That is a very desirable skill to have, and will help you stand out among others. I actually plan on learning the language next year, hope it isnt too hard.

  4. 1. In your opinion what are the most important relationships you have that could increase your human capital in the future?
Meet teachers or network around. Whoever you meet, they can put in a good word for you, give you job opportunities, & just help you into becoming successful.

    2. In your opinion what are the most important signaling assets a person your age could have? What signaling assets do you want to have in the future?
A person who is responsible, can get a job, & who can still manage school. Education is always in our faces. It’s important to graduate high school if we want to go to college because it shows that you accomplished getting your diploma & still want to continue to grow as a person.

    3. What skills do you currently have and how do you plan to foster (build) those skills in the future?
I already know one language so learning a new language would be a skill to work on. I also gained some new skills by attending SES, it’s not your usual public school so I feel like i’ve learned a lot than most people would in school. I like to volunteer at places. It makes me feel good when I help others & it’s a nice job since you get to meet & see so many different people.

    4. What short or long term decisions are you currently facing in your life and what are the cost involved?
My short term goal is to get a job. I don’t have a job anymore & it sucks. I wasn’t that smart when I quit my job on the spot & it comes with many consequences like not able to spend a lot on food or have to think about spending less money. Right now it’s fine & I can get by but if I continue living without a job, I feel like I would hate myself because of how broke & less independent I am. It started to hit me so I started to apply to many places that aren’t fast food, so it’s taking a while to get a job. I recently broke two phones in one month so it makes it really difficult to apply to jobs. For the time being I’m using my house phone to take in calls. My long term goal is to go to school & find myself. Most people have it figured out on what they want to do with there lives but I’m not sure where or what I want to go to school for. My plan is if I can’t find my strengths, than I’ll just gain new skills.

  5. 1. In your opinion what are the most important relationships you have that could increase your human capital in the future?
The most important relationships you could have to increase your human capital is being friends with the people you can trust and know that they will not be dragging you down while you’re trying to be successful.

    2. In your opinion what are the most important signaling assets a person your age could have? What signaling assets do you want to have in the future?
The most important assets a person my age could have would most likely be their car. Assets I want in the future would have to be savings account, a really nice car, stocks, and etc.

    3. What skills do you currently have and how do you plan to foster (build) those skills in the future?
The skills I’ve right now would be my willingness to work hard, persevere, ability to be a leader, problem solver, make good decisions, plan and organize, be self-motivating, and etc. I also I’m very competitive which helps with my willingness to do whatever it takes to get the job done, and the best way possible. I’m also very creative with a positive attitude which can get people really far if they know how.

    4. What short or long term decisions are you currently facing in your life and what are the cost involved?
I just moved out of the parents house so I’m dealing with money more than I was before. Having to watch how I spend my money even more carefully than I was before. Figuring out plans for signing a lease for an apartment in September. Also I’m going to college in the spring so I need to plan out how I will pay for it knowing that financial aid won’t cover it all.

  6. 1. In your opinion what are the most important relationships you have that could increase your human capital in the future?
I think the most important relationships I could have right now are my friends. I like how the guy kept in contact with his friends even if it was just a Christmas card a year. I think I’ll do that except I’ll contact them more than just once a year. By keeping in contact with all my friends I could possibly be introduced to someone in power that could really help me out with something I need.

    2. In your opinion what are the most important signaling assets a person your age could have? What signaling assets do you want to have in the future?
Some important signaling assets someone my age could have is work experience, experience in an internship and experience doing projects for the community. A signaling asset I want for the future in experience in an internship and a lot more work experience in different kind of jobs, that way I’ll have more than just a minute set of skills, giving me the upper hand when applying for jobs.

    3. What skills do you currently have and how do you plan to foster (build) those skills in the future?
Some skills I currently have is that I am great at working with people and being able to work with others, some consider me to be an excellent leader. Another skill that I have is that I am fluent in Spanish. I want to build onto those skills by getting more experience in working with a team and helping lead.

    4. What short or long term decisions are you currently facing in your life and what are the cost involved?
A short term decision I’ve been making for the last week is showing up to ABE to get my diploma. The cost of coming here is a couple hours of sleep and time I could be spending with my friends but in the long run I know that it will help me later on in life and I am determined to become someone in life. A long term decision I’m facing is the decision to go to college. I want to go to college and become great at what I want to do with my life and although it will take up a lot of years in my life, I’m willing to do so in order to be successful in life.

  7. 1. In your opinion what are the most important relationships you have that could increase your human capital in the future?
One of the many reasons I plan to maintain a good relationship with my parents is due to how well informed they are about making smart decisions in terms of money. For example, I have always planned on asking their opinion before buying a house when I get older because they can usually tell what a house is really worth. I also plan on staying in touch with my current employers because I have known them since I was four and they have helped me become the person I am today by teaching me taekwondo and instructing me on how to teach others in a positive manner. Although I’m not exactly sure what they would do to help me increase my human capital except to help me get a job at a different taekwondo school or start my own someday.
    2. In your opinion what are the most important signaling assets a person your age could have? What signaling assets do you want to have in the future?
Someone my age is often assessed by their GPA, the difficulty of classes they are taking, what sports they participate in or instruments they play (and how good they are), if they have a part time job, how much they volunteer in the community, any awards of recognition they might have received through their activities (ribbons, letters, “most improved,” etc.)
In the future, I hope to get my level two instructor certification in taekwondo and maybe even become fully certified. I would also like to become a certified nursing assistant to help me get into medical school.
    3. What skills do you currently have and how do you plan to foster (build) those skills in the future?
Leadership and public speaking, both of which I got and can improve by continuing to teach taekwondo and be on the high school speech team. I hope that those skills will help me in future careers as well.
    4. What short or long term decisions are you currently facing in your life and what are the cost involved?
Which college to go to. I have to consider price, location, what kind of majors are offered, etc.

  8. 1. In your opinion what are the most important relationships you have that could increase your human capital in the future?
Old coworkers ( managers) from my first job and the district manager there. Also new co workers, friends and family.
    2. In your opinion what are the most important signaling assets a person your age could have? What signaling assets do you want to have in the future?
Well i want to finish getting my high school diploma so i can have more job opportunities, also a college degree.

    3. What skills do you currently have and how do you plan to foster (build) those skills in the future?
I have good communication skills, very hard worker and love to learn new things. I can build these skills by learning from others i work with and from college professors. I dont know what college i want to go to yet, but id love to expand my knowledge in the nursing field or some other ones.

    4. What short or long term decisions are you currently facing in your life and what are the cost involved? What college i will be going to and what field i REALLY want to work in, i haven’t made up my mind. Also what jobs and skills i will need for my future job.

  9. 1. In your opinion what are the most important relationships you have that could increase your human capital in the future?
My aunt is part of HR for Home Depot, and I could benefit from the information that she has in that area and also learn from her experiences she went through to get to where she is now. Also I know see how my boyfriend’s parents “invest in building their network”. They not only seem to know a lot of people involved in all sorts of things, but stay in touch with them as well. They also provide the help they can where it’s needed, and most the time when they need help with something, odds are one of those people will assist them to the best of their abilities too.
    2. In your opinion what are the most important signaling assets a person your age could have? What signaling assets do you want to have in the future?
Work experience and their schooling. Like their high school diploma and all the other co-curricular activities they were involved in outside of school and volunteer work that they were a part of. Like anyone else, I would love to have a long list of signaling assets in the future but I haven’t even thought about what I’m going to do with myself after I get my diploma. I’d obviously love to go to college and get involved in all sorts of things to build my signaling assets list but as for specifics, I don’t have any.
    3. What skills do you currently have and how do you plan to foster (build) those skills in the future?
I’m very detail oriented, like to keep things organized, honest, and have a willingness to learn. I want to further my education and find jobs that can not only increase those skills and make them stronger, but that can also add more skills to me as a person.
    4. What short or long term decisions are you currently facing in your life and what are the cost involved?
My education, in the future, this process of getting my diploma will seem somewhat “short”, but will highly benefit me in the long run, it will open a lot more doors compared to not having a diploma. Another decision I face, when and if I go to college, where would I go, how would I afford it, and what on earth would I major in? One decision that’s always constant, whether long term or short term is finding a job. One long term decision we all face is the people in our life, such as your significant other. If you plan to spend the rest of your lives together, in a way your whole life is on the line. You share nearly anything, like finances, important decisions and so on. Including the consequences of those decisions.

Remember to turn your response into Classroom and then post your response onto the blog and respond to 1 other person!!!!!!

    1. In your opinion what are the most important relationships you have that could increase your human capital in the future?

I dont really have important relationships, I have one with my boyfriend we are motivated by each other to increase our human capital together. I am trying to get into management, I’m at a fast food place, I want to own my own company some day that is my goal so I am doing these little steps now to get where I need to be, then we will be where we need to be in our future.

    2. In your opinion what are the most important signaling assets a person your age could have? What signaling assets do you want to have in the future?

At my age, the assets would be a car, a cell phone, owning/renting a home.
What I would want to have in my future would be a house, not renting, it would be a nice car that I have paid off, nice office job.

    3. What skills do you currently have and how do you plan to foster (build) those skills in the future?
I have management skills, I am going to use this skills to the next step in my future by building and growing my future goals into having my own company, hiring my employees have to learn a lot to do so but it will eventually come together.

    4. What short or long term decisions are you currently facing in your life and what are the cost involved?

I have both long term, short term.
Short term, is my car I am to the point where it was supposed to last me a long time but it is breaking down on me, I have to replace parts more than I should, more money goes into the car then my other current bills.

Long term would be my diploma, it is taking me longer than usual to get it, but I haven’t gave up yet, it’s embarrassing at times to admit at my age I don’t have it but everyone has a story and mine ended up to me not receiving my diploma on time.

  11. 1.) I think that my uncle and I’s relationship will be important in the future do to his experience in product marketing and business management. Business Marketing is something that I’m considering majoring in and my uncle has a lot of experience in that field, he’s launched the first 3g phones into North America and due to this he has quite a few connections.

2.) As of right now I think that an important signal asset to have is something that shows you have experience considering you’re at such a young age. An example could be an internship you did somewhere or a job you previously had. As for the future I think that it would look really good if I had a signal asset that showed my achievements such as where I graduated from and/or an internship I did.

3.) One of the biggest skills that I have right now are my people skills. I’m not really sure how I can build them up, other than through experience such as working in a school with children or a job where I’m constantly with or helping people.

4.) I’m currently debating on what my plan is for college, I can’t decide whether I want to do 2 years at a community college and then go to a university or go straight to university. If I were to do the first option I would save a great deal of money where if I did the second option, I would be spending a lot more. Along with this if I choose the second option it may look better if I did 4 years at a university but I’m not entirely sure.

  12. 1.The most important connections and relationships that I could have to strengthen my human capital are going to be coming from friends and family, not just luck. When I say friends, I mean friends mostly in college and that is where I think that I could make the most connections.
2.I think that the most important signaling assets that a person my age could have are their connections and personality, not necessarily skill or stature or even reputation. these days I have been to an orientation at my current job, and there was a kid there with greasy hair, one earbud in, and his shirt untucked with no belt and jeans, that kind of thing is the worst that you can do as a human being in today’s job market (I didn’t see him at work the next week). For the future I would want reputation and stature, as already stated, as well as skill in the job that I want or already have and to get promoted because of it.
3.For now the only skills I have are in customer service from my job at Menards as well as people skills in general. I also have first aid and CPR training from boy scouts, as well as children skills and group activities with the children as I was a counselor at a cub scout camp for two years until I turned 16 and found my current favorite job at menards.
4.The current long term decisions I am making are to quit my job at Menards and to move to North Dakota and go to college at NDSU for drone repair and drone operation. I plan to set up shop either back in Minnesota, North Dakota, or the place that I really want to live, North Carolina up in the mountains in Boone.
