2. Select one of these careers and explain why this career is the most interesting to you. In your response consider these factors.
I would like to be a pediatrician because I would love to work with children. More specifically, I want to become a pediatric oncologist. When you are a kid, being in the hospital is a really scary experience and it doesn’t allow you to have a normal childhood, especially if you live in the hospital because you are sick. As a pediatric oncologist, I want to help make the process of dealing with life threatening diseases like cancer a little easier for the children, and their families. I would very much to find a cure for cancer or develop a new drug that slows down the process of malignant cell replication.
a. What human capital is necessary to get a career in this field, do you possess any of these skills, what skills do you still need to develop?
Four years of a good university, four years of a prestigious medical school, two years residency, two years internship. One must be very good at communicating with the family and the child, which are two very different things. The parents want to know the details, the hard facts and the big words that the child won’t understand. I would need to study developmental psychology to understand how a child’s mind works. I need to improve my math skills but I have very good investigative and problem solving skills.
b. What assets can you collect to help you acquire a job in this field? Think of the article you read yesterday, internships? Personal connections, similar work experience?
I can get my high school diploma first of all, then my undergraduate degree and then my doctoral degree. I can intern at hospitals and in biology labs to get more work experience to up my human capital.
c. How will this career help you earn wealth? Don't just look at the wage think about other ways to acquire income and investing and saving! Remember the wage you see on iseek doesn't account for taxes!
This career with make me well off; you know, after all my debts for school are paid off. This career is well above the average median for income, and depending on the city and state you can typically make more.
Your response on human capital was very well put and it's obvious that you know what the needed skills are and what you already have.
DeleteThat's so sweet! I think you'll make a great pediatric oncologist. It sounds like you have it figured out pretty well and with a job like that, you shouldn't have too much trouble paying off your debts. However, if you would like to get into medical school, you have to have about a thousand hours (not even exaggerating) of volunteer time at a hospital. The best way to go about this is to become a nursing assistant. If you take the class to become certified, you can even get paid for your volunteer time!
DeleteI have no idea what an Audiologist even is. However i think its nice of you to want to help children. you seem to really have thought it all out, so you wont have much of a problem in the future it sounds like. Medical school can be super expensive though, but if you prepared to work off all those debts then go for it!
DeleteYou won't have a problem at all paying off debts! You already know this skills, just keep improving them.
DeleteI think that you would make a great pediatric oncologist, I want to work with children too and I totally think you have the right skills to be one.
DeleteIt seems like you have very good intentions in the world and have a kind heart. I think it's great that you want to help kids not only with their health, but with making them more comfortable and at ease while going through a scary experience.

Psychologist in a Prison
a. What human capital is necessary to get a career in this field, do you possess any of these skills, what skills do you still need to develop????
Prison psychologists typically require a doctoral degree in psychology from a school accredited by the American Psychological Association. You can start your journey with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. In order to get into graduate programs, most aspiring you might be required to take the GRE and score at least 1250. Some of the classes needed include advanced counseling, psychology and the law, social psychology, abnormal psychology, developmental psychology, dealing with violent offenders, self-defense, as well as a battery of courses which deal exclusively with the criminal mind and sociopathy.
You must possess a strong work ethic, an ability to cope with high stress environments, compassion, a clear sense of boundaries, and a belief that humans can and do change. In addition to this skill set, prison psychologists need strong administrative abilities, good communication skills, and emotional resilience. Prison psychologists must also be able to quickly adapt to changes within the environment for safety reasons.
After reading and listening to the skill requirements needed as a prison psychologists I determined that I do reach most of the skills required for the job (minus the education, but I’ll get there). They all could use a lot of work on improving, but that’s just a few steps away.
b. What assets can you collect to help you acquire a job in this field?? Think of the article you read yesterday, internships? Personal connections, similar work experience???
Prison psychologists are required to successfully complete at least one (usually two) internships. You will likely finish a federal internship in which you conduct private and possibly court-appointed evaluation of inmates of questionable mental health, in order to determine if those who are accused are able to stand trial. You will be required to work closely with the prison population, while maintaining strict boundaries in accordance with prison policies.
c. How will career help you earn wealth??? Don't just look at the wage think about other ways to acquire income and investing and saving!!! Remember the wage you see on iseek doesn't account for taxes!!!!!!
My career will help earn wealth by increasing my wage which will allow me to invest in something or throw it into the savings. The wealth I earn from my career would also allow me to have more and better assets.
Forgot to add the second part on question #2, why it's an interesting job to me. Becoming a Prison Psychologists would be an amazing experience, I already love working with and helping people. There's about 45% of prisoners with a mental health illness and they aren't getting the help that's needed when they're in prison. I want to help fix that, someone needs to break the cycle because they get out and come right back in.
DeleteI think that is an amazing career choice. It would be an amazing experience and you would never be bored. If you become that I hope you write a book about your experience because I want to hear about it! xD But it would be a beneficial career because it earns good money and you would enjoy it, which is the most important thing. Not to mention by studying all of that psychology, you will be able to read people in your daily life very well which could come in handy.
DeleteDang girl, that is awesome! If you're interested in taking some self defense classes, you should check out the Rosemount ATA (American Taekwondo Association) by the Dance Connection and Marcus Theater. We teach Taekwondo, hand to hand combat, boxing, gun and knife defense, and jiujitsu. It's super fun, I highly recommend it:) As far as the schooling goes, it looks like you're on the right track and will end up with a job you enjoy!

Eye surgeon or opthomologist because I would love to give people their sight back. To be able to help people and fix them would be nice. Also, it’s less likely I will lose a patient performing eye surgery than something like heart or brain surgery.
a. What human capital is necessary to get a career in this field, do you possess any of these skills, what skills do you still need to develop????
A strong interest in science, good with face-to-face interaction, and good at making decisions, collaborate well with others (already have). Be able to diagnose conditions, Analyze test data or images to inform diagnosis or treatment, Conduct research to increase knowledge about medical issues, Operate on patients to treat conditions (don’t have yet).
b. What assets can you collect to help you acquire a job in this field?? Think of the article you read yesterday, internships? Personal connections, similar work experience???
Become a certified nursing assistant, internships at hospitals/clinics, and shadowing eye surgeons like my Chinese teacher’s husband
c. How will career help you earn wealth??? Don't just look at the wage think about other ways to acquire income and investing and saving!!! Remember the wage you see on iseek doesn't account for taxes!!!!!!
I have to specialize my education over the course of roughly ten to fourteen years in a highly competitive field, meaning my job will be rare. Also it will be in high demand since almost everyone has two eyes and plenty of people have issues with them. Supposedly, I will be making more than $80 an hour (not including taxes). I will probably save a lot of my money in a savings account. I already made about $2000 in the stock market so I will probably just let the stocks I have continue to grow and maybe buy a couple more if I know it will be a good deal. My family also owns farmland in North Dakota and I’m thinking of turning it into an eco-friendly environment which will probably cost money at first but save money in the long run.
You wouldn't be most likely to lose a patient but you could make their sight a lot worse than it already was..
DeleteThat's super coolhow you want to be a eye doctor, think that would be super hard since eyes are creepy. I have Keratoconus in my eyes, so maybe someday can come to you to fix it.
DeleteIt would be a very unique experience to be able to give people their sight back, that's an amazing thing. For the eye, unlike the heart, you have to be more dexterous and precise. The heart is a tough and large muscle, which can take a lot when the eye is very sensitive and small. That would be my only concern is that make sure that along with your intellectual skills you also have the steady hands for the job.
DeleteEye doctor's are amazing, that's awesome you want to be one. It will grow an grow for your human capital if you continue this for your career!
DeleteI think it's amazing that you want to be an eye doctor, I know that I could never be one! I also agree with you that you wouldn't have the possibility of killing your patient hanging over you all the time.
DeleteAn eye doctor is very ambitious and I hear your fear of hurting somebody, but it's also a very good opportunity to go and shadow this eye surgeon.

2. Select one of these careers and explain why this career is the most interesting to you. In your response consider these factors.
a. What human capital is necessary to get a career in this field, do you possess any of these skills, what skills do you still need to develop????
A.Well it's obvious that my first choice of job would be stay at home mom, but my second choice is underwater welder. They surprisingly make bank. They make like over $40 and hour. Which is pretty cool. The growth rate is 29.4%. For this job you need an Associate's degree or a bachelor's degree to get paid a lot, which is something i can live with. Also i am already scuba certified so that will help me with getting a job. I'm not a strong swimmer so i should work on that, i am also terrified of the ocean so i will need to get over that fear probably…
b. What assets can you collect to help you acquire a job in this field?? Think of the article you read yesterday, internships? Personal connections, similar work experience???
B. Assets that could help me would to be meet other people who are underwater welders? I've honestly never met an underwater welder before. I could get a job working with teaching people how to scuba dive, that could probably help me in the future.
c. How will career help you earn wealth??? Don't just look at the wage think about other ways to acquire income and investing and saving!!! Remember the wage you see on iseek doesn't account for taxes!!!!!!
C.Well i'm not really interested in underwater welding for the money, im there because it sounds super cool, and i want to look at fish all day. Plus welding is a great job. I’ll also probably start sell drugs to make side cash and acquire income.
Yeah, you definitely want to be a strong swimmer for this job. I'm curious, why are you so afraid of the ocean? Looking at fish all day sounds like a pretty cool job, good luck on your future endeavors.
DeleteI think teaching others to scuba dive would be fun and like you said helpful. But you would have to over come your fear of the ocean if you really wanted to be an under water welder.
DeleteManagement - Owning my own company
ReplyDeleteWorking in a doctor’s office front desk - Checking people in and out, scheduling appointments
Counselor - Either being in my own office having my own clients come in so I can help them or being one at a school and helping students out.
Customer Service - Any kind, at any place
My main goal is management, I want to have my own everything from car to house. This is going to take some time to get where I want to be for it but I know it will happen. I have to go to college for this, its going to cost a lot to own something of my own so I need to know the basics of owning something on my own. I need to develop more about being a manager I already am one at Burger King, it’s easy peasy since it’s a fast food place. Now I need to step up being more professional. College is going to help me get into this field it will teach the meaning of managing, owning. This will help me earn wealth because I’m going to be making a lot more so the little family I have now that pay for the co pays during doctor visits, we can actually have it, we do now but we have to wait paycheck to paycheck. Once done and accomplished it will be time to open up a savings account for my daughter! I have one now for her but it’s not much, it’s going to go somewhere along down the road. Myself will have more money to do more stuff in life, traveling if I wanted to, taking my daughter to Disney World, the list could go on. I am working my way to the top!
I like that you keep a positive outlook, know what you want, and are trying to better yourself for you & your daughter! Stay focused and determined during this process of making your way to the top and like you said, it will happen!
DeleteI also want to go into management and can understand your want of a house and a car.
Delete1.) Neonatal Nurse, Marketing Manager, Teacher, Real estate salesman
ReplyDelete2.) I would love to be a Neonatal Nurse for many reasons one of the main ones being that I could give an innocent baby the chance to live and grow up. The idea of contributing toward saving a life is something that I would absolutely love.
a.) This field would be mentally and physically exhausting due to the fact that I’d
be working 12 hour shifts, luckily I don’t think that would be a problem for me
because I already work long shifts. Also I’d need a positive attitude and a team-oriented mindset and I think that I already have these traits.
b.) I think that I would definitely need to do internships to build up my assets for this career. I could easily do this by searching online or talking with my school counselor.
c.) On average I would make $30.00 an hour or $60,000 a year, of course I would put a lot of this into a savings account and I also plan to dip into the stock market. I’ve never bought stocks before so I’d definitely need to research before I buy.

2. Select one of these careers and explain why this career is the most interesting to you. In your response consider these factors.
a. What human capital is necessary to get a career in this field, do you possess any of these skills, what skills do you still need to develop????
To be a personal care aide you need to be able to look for ways to help and assist people, a good monitoring performance to be able to keep track of how well people are doing in order to make improvements, and you also need to be able to think critically to be able to think about the pros and cons of different ways to solve a problem. I believe I possess some of these skills, but no doubt could improve in all of them. You don’t need a lot of schooling experience, matter of fact they accept people with less than a high school diploma, you don’t need any related work experience, and it’s only a short-term on-the-job training to become competent.
b. What assets can you collect to help you acquire a job in this field?? Think of the article you read yesterday, internships? Personal connections, similar work experience???
Personal connections may help. Maybe someone I know would know someone who needs a PCA. Working with people and improving my communications skills would definitely help immensely and prepare me. Possibly volunteering in an old folks home would help prepare me for the obstacles I would face for being a PCA as well. I’m sure I’d benefit by taking a few health education and safety/first aide classes too.
c. How will career help you earn wealth??? Don't just look at the wage think about other ways to acquire income and investing and saving!!! Remember the wage you see on iseek doesn't account for taxes!!!!!!
Although the pay isn’t great by all means, the growth rate in this career is quite high. I don’t know how many hours a day PCA’s work, I’m sure it varies depending on the person they’re taking care of and their condition(s). But I think with this job, you’d also want to have some side jobs as well or even have this be your side job while you go to school to get a higher degree. Which can be kind of unfortunate because juggling jobs or going to school while keeping a job can be a handful and stressful. But I feel like doing this job and helping people would be rewarding feeling. Honestly, I don’t think settling on this for a career is what I’d like to do, but I think it would be a good place to begin & would be something I’d like to add on my list of “signaling assets.”
Its smart that you're doing that as a side job to help earn a signaling asset. What do you want your career to be though?
Delete1. A.)Drone repairman

C.)Drone salesman
D.)Electric department manager at Menards
2. If I had to choose on of these jobs, I would choose the drone repairman because of the money that it pays, and of the lack of them in this day and age. I require the human capital to be able to repair these drones, and I do not yet possess this skill, so I will need to go to NDSU to study how to repair and sell these drones. I currently do not have too many assets, but I do plan to buy a townhouse with the money I’ve been saving up for and the college money my grandparents have given me over the years. This career will help me earn wealth because there are not too many of them out there.
This is pretty cool, the drone stuff. People with those skills are in high demand because the use of drones in the military these days has increased because of there effective abilities to get things done.

I’m really interested in becoming a physician assistant because I really want to go into the medical field and by becoming a PA I can perform all the regular duties a physician would without having to go through so much schooling. In order to become a PA I need to work well with people, be good at math and reading. I also need to think critically and make decisions on the fly. I feel like I do possess a couple of those skills such as working well with people and being good at math and reading. I still need to develop those skills and build up on them and I need to learn how to make decisions quickly. I can start earning valuable assets by applying for internships at hospitals and taking side courses to get me certified in a minor job in the hospital like EMT. By interning at a hospital I can see how the hospital runs and how demanding it is. Plus I could make connections with doctors and have them help me later on in my career. My career will help me acquire wealth because before taxes PA’s earn around $100,000 and with that money I plan on paying off any debts and with the money I have left over I want to invest. I also want to buy a condo somewhere outside of the United States.

Non- Destructive testing interests me the most because that is what I am going to do after high school. It interest me the most because it is a lot of hands on work, testing and working on buildings and bridges. Assets I have for this type of field are my brother, who is currently going through the NDT program, and my cousin who is working with NDT. These assets provide me with knowledge and connections. My cousin makes lots of dolla dolla bills and he only works 6 months out of the year.
